2008-09-27 - Boston and the John F. Kennedy Library

We didn't do much sightseeing today.  The only place we took photos was the John F. Kennedy Library.  Very interesting.

2008-09-28 Coastline and Lighthouse

It was very foggy and rainy today, which made for moody and interesting photos of the coastline and lighthouse.

2008-09-30 - Bay of Fundy, Nova Scotia

We are in St. John's, Nova Scotia today.  Sunny, lovely day.

We also visited the mouth of the Bay of Fundy.  The Bay of Fundy has one of the largest tidal surges in the world.  We hopped aboard a jet boat and road the tide.  The driver was a bit of a maniac, which made for a very thrilling ride.  We were in full slickers (pants and coat) but still got soaked to the skin.  What fun!!

2008-10-02 - Halifax and Peggy's Lighthouse

It is a bit dreary and overcast today but we are off sightseeing in Halifax, Nova Scotia.  Lots of variety of things to see...

including the Red Coats.

We took a walk through a really beautiful garden/park.

We also took a shore excursion out to Peggy's Cove.  Peggy's Cove is a quaint little fishing village with colorful houses and a lovely harbor.

And there was a very photogenic lighthouse.

Lovely area but it was raining pretty hard by then.

2008-10-04 - Boston

We are back in Boston and the weather is good.  We took a walk through some parks and old streets...

to the Granary Burying Grounds.

Here we found the tombstones of Ben Franklin,

Paul Revere,

John Hancock,

and Mary Goose, wife of Isaac Goose.  They are people of no great fame (she is not Mother Goose) but we loved the tombstone (and the names).

During our walk around town we also saw the Boston State House,

the Old North Church (of Paul Revere's ride fame),

the Old South Meeting House,

St. Stephens Church,

and King's Chapel.

We also found a statue of Paul Revere.

We also saw Boston's "Revolutionary Militia" out on maneuvers.

We did a lot of walking today and really enjoyed finding all of the places we learned about in our history classes way back when.

2008-10-05 - Boston Harbor and the USS Constitution

Much more walking today and eventually ended at the Boston Harbor.  We took a boat cruise in the harbor...
.

over to the USS Constitution, also called Old Ironsides.  She is the world's oldest commissioned naval vessel still afloat, launched in 1797.  Her crew is all active duty navy personnel .  It is considered a very prestigious assignment.

We also found the Freedom Trail, a long brick line wanders through Boston helping to direct tourists to the many of the historical sites.

We saw the Old State House again...

and ended up at Bunker Hill (Bunker Hill Monument from the Harbor Cruise)..

Paul, Mary and Gary walked to the top of the monument, Alice waited below.  The views over Boston were great.

Here we are at the Boston Harbor.
